Originally, this strange structure that juts out into the sea was used as a lighthouse. A staircase led to the upper floor where a brushwood fire was lit to indicate the position of the only small port existing in Circeo to fishermen. With the construction of the marina and the disposal of the small port and fish nurseries, during the 60’s and 70’s the turret became the “refuge” for ladies who wanted to sunbathe topless.
